EPIC Blog: Ask For Help

March 31st, 2020 l Author: Terri Galindo, LCSW, LMFT & Odelaisys Saco, MS

Two are better than one! In difficult times it is important to not isolate and to reach out for support, direction and encouragement. A list of resources is a good start! Include at least 2 people that you can call in the event of an emergency or for support. It can be family, friends, members of your local church, neighbors, etc. Also include information about medical and mental health providers, and services that will be useful to you and your family in a time of crisis. So many have walked in your shoes before you. So many are willing to help you, but can’t find the words or the opening they need to step through the doors you may have put up in protection. Look for ways to connect with friends, helpful family, and other parents.

Don’t Dismiss Feelings

As you deal with current stressors or life events, do not dismiss or minimize feelings and thoughts that you or a loved one may be experiencing that interfere with emotional wellness and daily activities. Remember that mental health is as important as physical health. Ensure that you are taking the time to breathe.
